Destined to speak for others. an image for little girls and boys like her.
❋ IF YOU WERE TO TELL LITTLE MIJITA SOMETHING ABOUT LOLA WHAT WOULD YOU WANT HER TO TAKE AWAY FROM IT?The freedom of it. Allowing yourself to f*ck up and be messy and feel like an avalanche when you need to because it is totally okay to not be fine and to believe that you’re worth more than what you’re given if you feel like what you’re given is not right. If you wouldn’t give what you’re given to your best friend, then you shouldn’t allow yourself to go through it.
❋ WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO CREATE LOLA?She made Lola last year. She wrote it in the shower. Very emotional place when a lot was going on in her personal life. She was reflecting on an imbalance of power. The desire for love that a lot of women are told to have. We’re told we need to be perfect enough to be a wife, to be a mother, image of being perfect for a man. Made her sick to her stomach. Compromising their boundaries for a man, for this idea of love. Seen as canon events now. What do you mean you have to go through the most traumatic events in order to experience happiness?
❋ IS THIS NEW MUSIC FOR YOUR SAME FAN BASE OR A NEW ONE YOU ARE SEEKING TO GAIN?She doesn’t think of it as a core fanbase. Trying to build and create something that’s honest and hopefully people that see what she’s creating will listen to that. The people that need to find you, will find you.

This is Mijita through the eyes of Jasmine. Mijita is a 25 year old, Afro-Latina artist and musician currently residing in sunny, south Florida. Her stage name comes from the word girl in Spanish. As a child, she fell in love with performance art. From singing to acting on stage to finding her own pathway as a multi-faceted artist. Her favorite mediums are paint, poetry and music. Singing and songwriting has helped Mijita think and feel through things that the world has thrown at her. She incorporates all of her artistic abilities into her music. From pen and paper to animation and finally directing and editing the visuals to her music.
Mijita is known for making new sounds from scratch. She is always asking herself, how can she throw herself out of her comfort zone? She makes things that reflected the chaos and joy of living. Back when she lived in the upper east side, she wasn’t too comfortable being vulnerable back. She would share just enough. In other words just a "spoonful of icing". Now that she resides in South Florida, everything is on the table in her music, paintings, etc. She went back to her roots of poetry, which she fell in love with as a child. Literally, every song she's made is a poem. The idea of performing her new music is very exciting for her.
When it comes to creating a new song, Mijita first writes it out then the beat comes after. She's a natural at singing since she's been doing it for the majority of her life. She enjoys poetry and even has a poetry notebook that she uses to guide her into the song-making process.
Mijita is far from shy in the fashion department. She styles herself and relies on small brands for different pieces in her eclectic wardrobe. Some of her favorite brands include: Gina Corrieri, Stray Rats, Umalu Vintage and Ai Mei Li.
Mijita's ear is very diverse. She listens to everything and has recently taken on the role as a jungle head. Some of her favorite music artists include, KWN, Destin Conrad, Sasha Keable, Pinkpantheress, Natanya, HiTech and Nia Archives.
Mijita is a strong and very independent young woman with an amazing team of family members behind her. As a child her parents fed into her delusions. They always believed in her more than she believed in herself at times. Her mom supported her by watching the musicals she performed in and she cried every, single time like she's never seen it before. Her Dad is also very in-tune to all of his daughter's success. Whenever Mijita needs to call him, he'll answer in a heartbeat. Not only are her parents supportive but so are her siblings and cousins. Her cousin is her engineer and she is always pushing him to be better.
Her favorite muse of all time is Cynthia Eryvo. Mijita admires her work ethic and performances and the fact that she does everything she wants. Her favorite performance by Eryvo is her 2016 Tonys performance for The Color Purple. Another muse Mijita admires is Doechii because she is action-based. She doesn't talk about it, she is about it.
Mijita wants to be known as an artist that is larger than life. She wants people to think of bright colors when they see her. She wants people to believe that she is more romantic and brighter than it is outside. She wants to be perceived as her art and the worlds she has created rather than the world we all live in. Her favorite performance that she has done was a show in New York City with Doc Martens opening up for Kelsey Lu. Community events are her favorite to perform at.
Mijita's strength comes from within, family and friends. Her personal engineer is her cousin and her lead bass plater is Danny Gushers. Mijita shows that collaboration is healthy and there is no I in team. She recently performed in Gainesville at the Big: Culture and Arts Festival last month. She brought some South Floridian familiar faces with her too by the names of, Danny Gushers (guitarist) Rumi (producer/engineer) and Listener 555 (guitarist).
